Brett is FINALLY coming home. Friday, September 25th is the BIG DAY!!
Typical Brett said, "I was talking to the Docs today. I have been here for 4 months, I have noticed the sign on the inside of the door (like in a hotel) that check out time is 11am. However, I have classes scheduled through 4pm on Friday. I have things to do, what happens if I don't check out at 11?"
I have more slow, steady progress to report.
Brett continues to work on the muscles he has today. We are searching for adaptive "equipment" to help with more of the everyday. He has been taking a cab home each weekend day, and loves to have coffee on the patio. However, he is tired of asking me for another drink of coffee-through a straw. Remember, he can feel his pointer and thumb (with deep pressure) but can't yet move any of his fingers. So, grabbing any beverage doesn't work...yet. His Occupational Therapist is ordering longer forks, spoons and some type of glass/cup that Brett can learn to use on his own.
We have home health care lined up in the morning and evening each day when he comes home. All sorts of equipment is being delivered to the house, and it will take us all a little time to adjust.
Brett was pretty much away from home since Christmas caring for his Father and Mother in their last days. Our family of four rerouted our reunion in Mexico (due to swine flu outbreak) to Hawaii the day after Bizzy's Memorial Service. We felt the love in Jacqui's Kona House for 12 days. Then were home for one week before driving to Washington to clean out Wayne and Bizzy's house.
We know we are facing some family adjustments in the coming months. We are going to do our best to be patient and flexible. Things certainly aren't the same, but we will make the most of what we have, and laugh along the way.
Caroline is so excited to have Daddy home to help with homework each night. And Cole is excited to have Dad in the house-every day, and every night.

We didn't make it through the last four months without the love and support of all of you!
I will post Homecoming pictures next week (or so).
Much Love~Kelly
